It is an ancient city. Its origins are lost in the mists of time, and its true name has long been forgotten. For a long time, it was just a sleepy little town in a tranquil valley, with narrow streets, crooked houses above whose roofs church bells tolled every hour on the hour, and in whose town park the battle against the lush greenery could only be half-won.
But its fate was to change when the moon fell to Earth. A meteorite struck the city center, reducing it to rubble. What none of the townspeople, nor those who came to the aid of the burning city, knew, however, was that with the aerolith came something that would mean the end of all things if it awoke.
Since that dark day, the city has never been the same. Strange things began to happen.
Once a year, when the moon is again in that unholy aspect, terror stirs beneath the city. On these nights, when the moon reveals its true face, the city falls into darkness. The moonborn then rule the place, and under the cold gaze of the pale eye in the firmament, unspeakable things happen…
The Pale Fountain
In the middle of the main square, a fountain was built after the meteorite impact. Not only the stone, but also the metals carried by the meteorite were used in its construction. Gradually, the building work devolved into a feverish frenzy, which is clearly reflected in the fountain's appearance. The fountain became too large, too opulent, strangely dark, even though it was made of pale moon rock, and was adorned with so many ornaments and chased details that it is almost painful to look at. In the moonlight, an eerie glow emanates from the metal inlays, and townspeople report hearing faint whispering voices near the fountain. Why the craftsmen deviated so drastically from the original designs remains unclear. However, it is reported that all the stonemasons and blacksmiths involved in the fountain's construction either killed each other, stabbed themselves in the eye with their tools in their workshops, or, at best, vanished without a trace.
